Why Can’t People Follow Their Passion?

Spread the love

Out of all the people I know, there are hardly few people who I can say are really following their passion. Very few people are doing what they really love. Everyone says you should follow your passion but why not everyone does it? Sometimes I really think, is it possible to really follow your passion or it is just a saying? If the answer is Yes, then why not everyone is doing it? And if the answer is No, then why do we say it?

I will talk about what I think later. First, I would like to talk about this in detail. Starting with very basic, what do we mean by our passion. I asked my friends why did they choose to become an engineer or doctor or CA, etc. Answers were not surprising. Someone said a good salary made me choose this career, some said they wanted to enjoy some reputation of being highly qualified, some said they did because their parents asked them to, some said I could not understand or I don’t like maths and science, so I chose to become a CA and many such reasons.

But only very few said that they really love machines or numbers. They really did not bother about Salary or Reputation or anything. They were happy that they are doing what they like. While working or doing their job, they were fully focused and determined for their work. And those who were doing their job without passion were always complaining about everything. So, the question here is – rather than doing something which they don’t love, why they don’t follow their passion?

I asked this question to many people and I got the answers like it is not easy, parents won’t allow it, society will judge us, it is not my cup of tea, what if I fail, etc. They definitely thought that Following Passion is not easy or is impossible for them. Some of them never even tried to take any steps to follow their passion.

So, I thought about it and I realized that there are few common reasons because of which people just cannot follow their passion –

Number 1

The fear of being judged – the biggest problem of every human being is the constant fear of being judged if they do something different. They always keep thinking about what will people think if I do this, will they laugh? Will they make fun of me?

Number 2

Not taking the right efforts – people say that we tried but still could not be successful. If we analyse, we can see that they did something which was totally useless. They never really tried very hard.

Number 3

Not getting out of their comfort zone – success is possible only when you get out of your comfort zone. Slight discomfort will make them give up. One has to really push himself/herself to get something. Success is not easy.

Number 4

They keep complaining – their excuses never stop. At every step, they have some or the other excuse ready. We don’t have time or we don’t have enough money or we don’t have power, etc are some typical lines which people say.

Number 5

Focusing on Enjoyment & not on what is important – many people just do what is funny or entertaining. Eat, sleep, enjoy & repeat is the only thing which they know.

Number 6

Fear of failure – the most common reason is what if we fail? This fear has stopped many people from achieving their goals in their life and many people from being successful.

The above reasons are quite obvious but still, people don’t do anything. In my opinion, people can easily follow their passion and do what they really love. My journey of starting this website somehow started in a similar way like others. Even I used to give the same reasons, same excuses and had same fears. But slowly when I realised that nothing is really stopping me except for my thoughts and habits, then I decided to make it happen. I did the following which helped me to do it –

Number 1

Knowing What I Love – this is the first thing. I wanted so many things to do but there is always one thing which is your passion, which you love the most and that way I was very clear about what I want in my life. Know what you love and what is your goal. It is like deciding what is your destination and then start your journey.

Number 2

SWOT Analysis – This is the most important thing for everyone. We all know about SWOT analysis – strengths, weakness, opportunity and threat. This helped me to know where do I stand, what needs to be improved, where can I make mistakes and where I have to be careful.

Number 3

Reading Self-help Books – reading self-help books definitely helped me. I have already written about what books you must read which can change your life. You can check that article. I have read these books and I must say, the kind of confidence I got was phenomenal.

Number 4

Being Honest – I started being honest to myself. I realised I can fool others but I can never fool myself. I decided to be honest with myself for each and everything. For example, if I am not able to reach my decided target, I do an analysis and understand was it my fault that I could not reach the target or I am just blaming others for my mistakes. Soon, I realise that there is no point in blaming others.

Number 5

Taking Risks – If you want to make it big, you have to take risks. Nothing is easy, so you have to think and make some strong and hard decisions. You have to take risks. You have to be brave.

The sole purpose of writing this article was just to let you all know about what I felt. Because we all have dreams. We all are passionate about something but we stop ourselves from following it. You have to Stop Wishing & Start Doing it.

Following your passion is not just a saying – It is Possible and You can do it.

Good Luck!!

  1. The ramen incident: I have decided to remain anonymous to protect my identity from the foolishness. last night, I became hungry and decided to make some ramen. I removed the various packets from the bowl, added the flavor and vegetables, then put the bowl in the microwave. After about a minute or two, I realized something was wrong. A terrible burning smell had filled my kitchen. I opened the door to my microwave and…low and behold…I had neglected to add water. There was some smoke coming from the bowl. Not wanting to waste the ramen, I went to the sink and added water, which filled the room in acrid smoke for several seconds. I then returned the bowl to the microwave and cooked it for two more minutes before attempting to eat it. Well….It went okay for a little while, until I discovered a globule of blackened noodles which had turned into some sort of strange crystalline substance yet seen in nature by humankind. I had a change of heart.
